"Children cannot bounce off the walls if we take away the walls" - Erin Kenny

Children are experts in their own play and there’s far more going on in play than we can see from the outside. It is very important that children have opportunities to choose what to play and make up their own rule for how to play - everyday. We allow children to take the lead in play and help by offering them open-ended materials (or “loose parts”). We call these Pop Up Adventure Playgrounds because they encourage risky play in temporary spaces. A park, a gym, a back yard can all become an adventure.
Pop-Up Adventure Playgrounds are free, public celebrations of child-directed play, stocked with loose parts (such as cardboard boxes, fabric, tape and string) and staffed by playworkers.  An introductory version of the classic adventure playground model, they gently introduce themes of risk and freedom by welcoming people of all ages and abilities to play together. By participating or hosting a Pop Up Playground from City PlayCorps you will be supporting the play that all children need for healthy cognitive, physical, and social development, school success, and overall well-being.  It's a new way to practice old fashioned play that gives kids value, social skills and fun!

What We offer:

  • A fully supported Pop Up Adventure Playground

  • Trained and Experienced Play Workers to facilitate the fun

  • Procedures to allow safe risk taking

  • Clean up and restoration of the space being used

  • Post Play Assesment for Parents and groups

If you are interested in learning more about how we can help your community or event host a full Pop-Up Adventure Playground for children and families in your neighborhood or school, please contact us via our website
